About Ryan Kilgroe

Composer Background

Kilgroe is classically trained in music composition from the Lamont School of Music. Kilgroe has extensive experience in the genres of classical, dixieland, and the marching arts.

Artistic Contribution

Ryan Kilgroe has a vision for music connecting people across cultural and linguistic barriers. He brings this perspective, with matching passion, in his compositions, performances, and educational endeavors.
Kilgroe is pushing to remind his audiences, musicians, and collaborators that music should be fun, not restrained.

Ambitions

Ryan Kilgroe is eagerly working to increase the accessability of creating music in classical ensembles to the younger generation by creating higher-quality sheet music that beginners actually would want to play.
Kilgroe also has a vision for a revolution in theatrical music, and is working to create and spread instrumental-musical-theatre as a genre. This new performing art has vitality to serve smaller public schools without the budget for a marching band theatrical production, but has an ensemble interested in these arts. In this, the cast will be instrumentalists which interact with each other both visually and musically. The genre will initially be intended for a general, age-inclusive audience and will not utilize spoken words.

Biography

Ryan Kilgroe is a passionate composer and trumpet performer. Kilgroe’s background includes performing in academic and professional ensembles, instructing developing musicians, and composing for his musical peers.

In addition to being a composer and performer, Kilgroe also works as a K-12 substitute teacher, as well as freelance brass educational-coach and private lesson teacher.

Writing primarily modern-instrumental chamber music, Kilgroe’s favorite part of making music is the opportunity to pull influences from other cultures and perspectives to acknowledge, commemorate, and expand on the lived experiences of humanity.
